Lovers Are Square

In this catalog shoot for Independent Trading Company I was given the task to create and present style boards and then style an “Urban Cool” catalog shoot using the clothing companies sweatshirts. I styled current inspiring outfits, showing how to wear a sweatshirt in a more fashionable way. To make sure I was current in the catalog season I scoured through current runway shows, street fashion and celebrity fashion.

This shoot was a lot of fun because of the critical thinking I had to do. ( I laugh when I hear critical thinking, because I think of an old teacher who would say “Isn’t all thinking critical?”) Higher Space wanted to market toward a mature, professional woman who was active but was also “420 friendly”. Using Higher Space’s tie dye garb, screen t-shirts, marijuana hats, purses, fanny packs, phone cases and jewelry. I was able to style the pieces in outfits that their target customer could see themselves wearing on a daily basis: yoga, girls night out, brunch and a hike around the lake.

I was asked to help kick off the spring fashion season by styling social media influencers for a photo shoot to promote Spring 2018 LAFW, Los Angeles Fashion Week. The task at hand was to style the models with provided wardrobe that was onset when I arrived. I helped with fittings, prepped and pinned the garments for sizing. I also put together and assisted putting together multiple outfits with two other stylists. We based the styling on each of the influencers according to their social media personality.

This was the second year I was asked to style the annual Fashion Redux. This is a partnership between San Diego Mesa College and the San Diego History Museum. The Mesa students are to design a garment based on a historical garment out of the museum. The four winning pieces are then shot in a photo shoot and featured in the museum.

I was given four photos of the winning garments and planned outfits according to the era the pieces were inspired by. I created the mood boards, makeup and hair style boards and cast the models, hair and makeup team for the photo shoot.
